Portuguese olive oils in the spotlight

The 14th International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition - CA Ovibeja Award received around 100 samples from a dozen countries. The samples were assessed by a judging panel of around three dozen tasters representing 10 countries, chaired by José Gouveia, a world expert in olive oils.

Of the award-winning olive oils, Portuguese olive oils won nine honours this year. Portugal, which also submitted the most samples to the competition, particularly distinguished itself in the Mature Fruity and Light Green Fruity categories, with four prizes in each.

The competition has for several years been classified as one of the best international olive oil competitions. It is organised by ACOS - Associação de Agricultores do Sul, in close collaboration with Casa do Azeite and with the exclusive sponsorship of Crédito Agrícola.

The prizes were awarded to the winners on May 3, during the 41st Ovibeja, an agricultural fair in the Alentejo, southern Portugal, at a ceremony that followed the conference on + Olive Oil + Future, organised by ACOS, the organiser of the events.
