The ‘Aceite de Madrid’ Protected Designation of Origin has been awarded the Prize for the Best Product of Madrid by the Madrid Academy of Gastronomy, a recognition that highlights the excellence, quality and contribution of Madrid’s extra virgin olive oils to the region’s gastronomic heritage.
The award was presented during the gala for the 10th edition of the Community of Madrid Gastronomy Awards, held at the Real Casa de Correos, and accepted by the president of the Madrid Olive Oil PDO, Rafael Gómez Toba, who took to the stage accompanied by the director of the Regulatory Council, Esther Alonso.
During the ceremony, Gómez Toba told the media that one of his main objectives is “to ensure that PDO oils become the raw ingredient of choice for the fine dining sector and that consumers, just as is already the case with wine, begin to demand dishes prepared with Madrid olive oil”.
This achievement represents significant recognition of the work carried out by the Madrid PDO Olive Oil to guarantee the distinctive quality of its oils, promote the work of its olive growers and oil mills, and strengthen the positioning of a product that embodies the agri-food excellence of the Community of Madrid.
A reward for the work of the entire sector
The award presented by the Madrid Academy of Gastronomy also recognises the joint efforts of producers, processors and professionals who have made Madrid’s extra virgin olive oil an increasingly prominent benchmark both at home and abroad. The award also comes at a particularly significant time for the Madrid Olive Oil PDO, whose producers continue to achieve success at major international competitions. According to the Regulatory Council, these results are due to be announced to the press in July.
The Aceite de Madrid PDO continues to promote a culture of quality olive oil, innovation and the promotion of a product linked to the region, sustainability and Madrid’s gastronomic identity, consolidating its presence year after year in the main markets and specialist forums.
