The Olive Oil World Congress (OOWC) continues to promote its positioning ahead of its second edition, to be held on 2 and 3 July 2026 at the Belém Cultural Center in Lisbon (Portugal), with the aim of consolidating itself as the world’s leading reference forum for the olive oil sector.
In this context, and within the framework of the initiative “On the Road to OOWC 2026,” the Congress organizers presented the event to the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Spain at a meeting held at the headquarters of the International Olive Council (IOC) in Madrid. The event, conceived as a working breakfast, provided an opportunity to present the objectives and strategic approach of the Congress.
The event featured speeches by Jaime Lillo, Executive Director of the IOC, and Ricardo Migueláñez, General Coordinator of the OOWC, who highlighted the biennial, cross-cutting and global nature of the event, designed to bring together all links in the olive oil value chain: production, industry, distribution, research, institutions and gastronomy.
During his address, Lillo stated: “We are pleased to present the second edition of the Olive Oil World Congress, following the very positive experience of the first. It will be a unique occasion that will bring together representatives from countries producing around 95% of the world’s olive oil, along with producers, industry and consumers, to address the main challenges facing the sector and to foster dialogue among the leading global stakeholders.”
The presentation was attended by diplomatic representatives from olive oil-producing and consuming countries such as Montenegro, the United States, Algeria, Lebanon, Malta, Uruguay, Greece, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Georgia, Iraq, Argentina, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Hungary, Jordan and Morocco, reflecting the broad interest generated by OOWC 2026.
During the presentation, the main features of OOWC 2026 were outlined. The Congress will bring together in Lisbon more than 300 operators from producing and consuming countries across different regions of the world, including leading companies in the sector, public institutions, research centers, universities and renowned experts.
The structure of the Congress’s working committees—scientific-technical, organizing and executive—was also presented, and diplomatic representatives were invited to actively participate in them, contributing both to the design of the program and to the development of technical activities and international promotion actions for OOWC 2026. Within this collaborative framework, the Congress program will be developed over two days of high-level technical, scientific and business sessions, with the participation of internationally recognized speakers who will address the main challenges and opportunities facing the olive oil sector.
