World olive oil production exceeds 3.5 Mt in 2024/25

According to the latest estimates of the European Commission and the International Olive Oil Council (IOC), world olive oil production will exceed 3.5 million tonnes, a significant increase of 37% compared to the previous weak season, which was just under 2.6 million tonnes and also 17% above the average for the previous five years.

In the European Union, the expected production, with harvests practically concluded last May, is just over 2.1 million tonnes, also 37% and 572,000 tonnes higher than the previous season (1.53 Mt) and also 15% above the five-year average.

Outside the EU, olive production has also increased in the current marketing year 2024/25, reaching just over 1.4 million tonnes, 36% more than the figure for the previous marketing year (1.05 Mt) and also 20% above the average for the previous five marketing years.

In the EU, by country, Spain would have obtained 1,415,000 tonnes (+66%); Italy would have remained at around 248,000 tonnes (-24%), being once again overtaken by Greece, which recovered to 250,000 tonnes (+43%) and Portugal, 177,000 tonnes (+10%). The remaining 14,000 t are mainly shared by France (5,500 t), Cyprus (3,800 t), Croatia (3,700 t) and Slovenia (800 t).
