Beja, World Capital of Olive Oil: OOWC Presented at OLIVUM TALKS 2025

As the Olive Oil World Congress (OOWC) continues moving “On the Road to OOWC 2026,” developing a highly specialized scientific program with broad international expert participation, the OOWC’s general coordinator used the 12th edition of Olivum Talks to present the project’s latest advances to Portugal’s olive-oil sector, foster dialogue among key stakeholders, and highlight the value of collaboration between all operators and institutions in building an ever more promising future.

Within this OLIVUM-organized forum, Ricardo Migueláñez, OOWC general coordinator, unveiled in Beja (Portugal) some of the program updates for 2026 and emphasized the opportunity that hosting the second edition of the congress in Lisbon in June 2026 represents for Portugal’s olive-oil sector—showcasing to the world the progress achieved in recent years and the potential of its production model for the future.

“It’s important to strengthen alliances among operators worldwide. That’s why meetings like Olivum Talks and the Olive Oil World Congress are necessary: they bring together everyone involved in producing and marketing olive oil from different countries, with the goal of improving relationships across every link in the chain, from innovation to the consumer,” Migueláñez noted.
The OOWC is a participatory, open project, “built by everyone, from the ground up and with an inclusive vision, where sponsorship is not limited to finance but represents a commitment to the sector’s future—innovation, sustainability, and international projection.”

A core pillar of the OOWC is its collaborative structure, which enables companies, associations, and institutions to take an active role in decision-making and planning bodies. Partner entities not only gain visibility in one of the sector’s most influential forums; they also join working committees that set the agenda, design promotional actions, and shape the technical and business development of the congress.

The OOWC is backed by leading institutions and companies, including the International Olive Council (IOC), CIHEAM Zaragoza, the Mediterranean Diet Foundation, the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha (via Campo y Alma), SOM Gastronomia of the Government of Catalonia, Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food through Alimentos de España, the Madrid Institute for Rural, Agricultural and Food Research and Development (IMIDRA), as well as AgroBank, GEA, and the Spanish Olive Oil Interprofessional.

The OOWC invites all interested companies and institutions to explore cooperation and sponsorship options. For information, contact the OOWC Technical Secretariat at +34 91 721 79 29 or info@oliveoilwc.com.
