Jaén to Host the "Nutrition and OMICS" Symposium in 2026

The 6th International Congress on Olive Oils, Olive Groves and Health has been consolidated as an event of international scientific relevance, focused on the study of virgin olive oils, olive cultivation and their effects on both human health and the environment. This sixth edition continues the legacy of the five previous congresses held in Jaén in 2004, 2008, 2018, 2021 and 2024, reinforcing the province’s role as an international benchmark in research on olive oils and their health benefits.

The International Congress on Olive Oils, Olive Groves and Health will hold its next edition in June 2026 in the city of Jaén. The event is organized by the University Research Institute for Olive Groves and Olive Oils at the University of Jaén and is financially supported by the Provincial Council of Jaén.

Its main goal is to consolidate itself as an international reference forum for reflection and scientific exchange, bringing together researchers, health experts and top-level professionals with the aim of deepening the study of olive oils and their impact on health, nutritional culture and gastronomy.

In this edition, the congress will acquire a greater international dimension by being held jointly with the Symposium on Nutrition and OMICS, a major scientific meeting organized since 2015 by Professors Frank B. Hu (Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health) and Miguel A. Martínez-González (University of Navarra / Harvard University), focused on the latest advances in nutritional research and omics sciences.

This joint congress will bring together a distinguished international scientific community, including experts in public health, nutrition, metabolomics and epidemiology, as well as professionals from the agri-food sector. Its main objective is to promote scientific knowledge on the role of olive oils—especially extra virgin olive oil—in the prevention of chronic diseases and their impact on global health, sustainability and Mediterranean food culture.

The program of this new edition will include a session devoted to presenting the latest findings from projects focused on preventing 21st-century chronic diseases, with special emphasis on the role of metabolomics in interventions based on the Mediterranean diet.

Main Themes of the Symposium

1. Mediterranean Diet and Olive Oil in Health Promotion
Analysis of the role of the Mediterranean diet and extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) in the prevention of cardiovascular, neurodegenerative diseases and cancer.

2. Nutrition and Omics Sciences: Focus on Metabolomics
