Madrid Promotes Healthy Eating in Schools Through EVOO Education

The Community of Madrid, in collaboration with the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Aceite de Madrid, will deliver informational talks and workshops on this product to students in 12 schools across the region. This initiative, running until December 2, aims to promote a balanced diet and raise awareness of a highly healthy local food.

The program will reach around 550 third-grade primary students from schools in Campo Real, Colmenar de Oreja, Valdilecha, Perales de Tajuña, Chinchón, Tielmes, Titulcia, Villarejo de Salvanés, Villaconejos, Carabaña, and Arganda del Rey.

In the workshops, children will be able to taste bread with different samples of this plant-based food, which provides nutrients and energy and is a key component of the Mediterranean diet. Through informational sessions, they will also learn where it comes from, how it is produced, and what other habits are essential for maintaining good health.

Additionally, students will take part in an activity where they design their own label for a 250 ml bottle, which they will then take home. They will also receive a certificate acknowledging their participation.

The Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Aceite de Madrid was recognized by the European Union in 2023 and managed to market 34,000 liters during the 2024/2025 season. The seal ensures consumers that the bottles they purchase come from olive groves in the region and that both production and bottling have taken place locally in one of the thirteen mills.

This PDO was the most recent quality designation added to those already existing in the autonomous community: the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Sierra de Guadarrama Beef, the Geographical Designation Anís de Chinchón, the Organic Farming Label, the PDO Vinos de Madrid, the Guarantee Mark Huerta de Villa del Prado, and the Quality Designation Aceitunas de Campo Real. Together, these labels allow the regional government to safeguard the excellence of outstanding local foods produced close to home.
