Jaén will once again be at the global epicentre of nutrition and health research on 11 and 12 June 2026 with the PREDIMED Omics 2026 Symposium and the 6th International Congress on Olive Oil and Health. The event will bring together leading scientists and health professionals from the University of Navarra, Harvard University's T.H. Chan School of Public Health and other leading international research centres.
Co-organised by the University Institute for Olive Grove and Olive Oil Research (INUO) at the University of Jaén, the University of Navarra and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and with the support of the Provincial Council of Jaén, the congress reinforces a scientific trajectory that began in 2004 and has consolidated the province as a world leader in the study of the benefits of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) and the Mediterranean Diet.
The latest edition, held in 2024, highlighted the growing scientific evidence supporting the role of EVOO in the prevention of cardiovascular, metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases and certain types of cancer, as well as its contribution to the sustainability of the agri-food system. The 2026 edition will go one step further by integrating the PREDIMED Omics Symposium, an internationally renowned scientific forum on nutritional epidemiology and omics sciences.
The programme will address three main themes
The Mediterranean Diet and olive oils in health promotion; the application of metabolomics and omics sciences in nutritional research; and evidence from prospective cohorts in the prevention of chronic diseases. In addition to plenary sessions and round tables, the meeting will include oil tastings and opportunities for established researchers and young scientists to exchange ideas.
Beyond its academic dimension, the conference aims to strengthen international cooperation, promote joint projects and encourage knowledge transfer between the scientific community, the agri-food sector and institutions. With this new event, Jaén reaffirms its role as an international hub for innovation in olive oil, promoting it not only as an emblem of the Mediterranean diet, but also as a strategic ally for health and global sustainability.
