The OOWC is organising a new olive oil promotion day, this time in São Paulo

As part of the activities planned under the umbrella of ‘On the road to OOWC 2026’, the Olive Oil World Congress (OOWC) has organised the ‘Azeite e Saúde’ symposium, to be held on 12 November 2025 at the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (CCAB). The event will bring together international experts to discuss the role of olive oil in health, its quality and its culinary potential.

The opening ceremony will be presided over by OLIVA and representatives from the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Trade.

From a global perspective, Jaime Lillo, Executive Director of the IOC, will present ‘Olive oil in today's world,’ followed by a lecture by Dr Miguel Ángel Martínez (Harvard University, USA) on the Mediterranean diet and its effects on health.

This will be followed by a round table discussion on the impact of oil consumption on humans with Dr Andrea Romanos (Harvard, USA), Dr Ramón Estruch (University of Barcelona, Spain); Mariana Del Bosco, Nutritionist (Member of the
ABESO Department of Childhood Obesity) and Dr. Áureo Augusto Delgado (gastroenterologist, member of the Brazilian Federation of Gastroenterology and the GI Youth Committee of the World Gastroenterology Organisation, Brazil), moderated by Rita Basi, President of OLIVA.

The programme will include the presentation of the 2026 Olive Oil World Congress (OOWC) by Ricardo Migueláñez, general coordinator of the OOWC, as well as technical sessions focusing on quality and authenticity: Teresa Pérez (Interprofessional Olive Oil Association, Spain) will explain how to understand the physical, chemical and sensory characteristics of the product; Mariana Matos (Casa do Azeite, Portugal) will detail the factors that determine quality ‘from the olive to the bottle’; and chef and communicator Beto Almeida (Brazil) will showcase the versatility of olive oil in Brazilian cuisine.

The day will conclude with an open debate and a tasting experience to try products made with olive oil and learn about the brands present.

The OOWC continues its work to promote olive oil, supported by institutions such as the International Olive Council (IOC), CIHEAM, the Mediterranean Diet Foundation and various public and private entities, such as the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha, SOM Gastronomía of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Alimentos de España, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, and the Madrid Institute for Rural, Agricultural and Food Research and Development (Imidra) as institutional sponsors. At the private level, the congress has the support of AgroBank as a platinum sponsor and GEA as a gold sponsor.
